Incorporating sunscreen into your daily routine can be one of the simplest yet most meaningful ways to nurture yourself. This daily habit that takes just a few moments is a commitment that may aid your physical health, your long-term wellness, and even self-confidence.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, sunscreen is essential for everyone, no matter the skin type. Applying it each morning isn't just about protecting your skin from the sun, but making yourself a priority. With each application, you’re choosing to preserve and care for your body. It’s a beautiful and proactive act of self-love that can support you from the outside in.

A Simple Habit With a Big Impact
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, wearing sunscreen is one of the easiest and best practices for safeguarding your skin. It helps prevent sunburns, premature aging, and illnesses like skin cancer. You should wear sunscreen every single day, and reapply it every two hours, especially after going for a swim or sweating.

Although it may be easy to forget, the sun’s rays can still affect your skin even during summer thunderstorms, or when you are indoors — especially if you’re by a window, NBC News reports. That’s why using sunscreen daily is so good for you. It acts like a shield between the sun and your skin, helping to preserve your skin’s health.

Your Skin, Your Self-Care
You should regularly wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, a blog from the Skin & Cancer Center of Scottsdale recommends. Sunscreen with an SPF of 60 or more can provide extra protection for the days you’re outside in direct sunlight for long periods of time.

However, there are various types of sunscreen, including mineral and chemical formulas. Some may find chemical sunscreens harsh and others can perceive mineral sunscreen as too noticeable. While the best choice is the one that feels right for you, the most important thing is to apply sunscreen all over your exposed skin, including your hands, arms, neck, and face.

Sunscreen can also be worn on top or under makeup. However, make sure to consult with your dermatologist before layering more than one product.

Putting on sunscreen every day before you’re exposed to harmful rays is a way to show up for yourself. So tomorrow, after you wash your face and brush your teeth, consider putting on some sunscreen. Do it with love and intention because your wellbeing deserves that kind of care every day.
