Many people participate in half marathons which are less grueling than running a full marathon. But at 13.1 miles (21.1 kilometers) it is still no easy task. That’s why it is astonishing that someone would run multiple half marathons in just a year.

Edward Molineaux, a 34-year-old runner from Whitenhall, England, actually clocked in 465 half marathons in just a year and broke the world record, reported Empress & Star. In his determination to reach this goal, he completed six half marathons in just one day.

Molineaux broke the world record, according to the Official Record Breakers and was awarded a certificate from Kevin Brown, a record breaker and former discus thrower. But that’s not all.

According to Empress & Star, Molineaux also recently won the 2,000-mile virtual race across Africa that was hosted by GB Ultra.

From Adversity to Inspiration
While Molineaux started running when he was 16, but he didn’t really run seriously until  during the Covid lockdowns when a hernia made doing other sports impossible, reported Fox News.

“I used to love sports like boxing, but when I suffered a hernia it took me about two years after my operation to get my body back," Molineaux told Fox News. "All I could do was run. I couldn't turn to anything explosive anymore.”

What he started as a way to recover from surgery turned into much more. He shared,  “I love giving inspiration to other people, and that warrior feeling.”

How Does He Do It?
You might wonder how it is possible to run that many half marathons in a year. Molineaux said that he structures his week around 13 half marathons and this frequently requires him to run several a day.

“To complete the half-marathons, I split my week into 13 runs, with three on Monday and Wednesday, two on Tuesday and Thursday, and then just one half-marathon for the remaining three days,” he said.

He has pushed through races with blisters and fatigue but there really is a method to his madness. He has a highly disciplined nutrition strategy. He doesn’t like to eat before a marathon, but he will eat a banana. Molineaux said that he fuels- up on meat and fish in the evening.

His perseverance in going from running to recover from surgery to world record winner has made him an inspiration and a symbol of hope for others.
